Wednesday 30th September - A practice planting session...

Trees for Spondon assembled on a slightly drizzly, grey Wednesday morning for our first practice planting session. We met up on Dale Road park and did some socially distanced greetings before getting to work!

We are lucky enough to have a tree expert in our midst, and we watched eagerly while we were shown how to efficiently dig a hole, plant a sapling and safely cover and stake it. We worked to extend one of the existing copses bordering the football field, using a variety of trees including Rowan, Birch and Hazel. We ended up planting 20 trees, not bad for a morning's work!

It was a really good session and gave us a taste of the work needed to meet our target of planting a tree for every resident of Spondon.
